The considerable volume of records that came with the car indicate that Nerheim was a motorsports enthusiast, and that he intended to purchase a sports car during his Army assignment in France.  Nerheim was single when he was stationed in La Rochelle, France with the US Army in the early sixties, and in fact he did not marry until 1990 at age 52. 

 

Literature and files with the car indicate that he attended motorsports events during his assignment in Europe, including the 1962 Le Mans 24-hour race, as seen from these tickets:
